HISTORY
Incheon United was formed in 2003 on the back on the 2002 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Japan and South Korea. The team came about thanks to the construction of Incheon Munhak Stadium for the World Cup, with the city beginning planning for a K-League team shortly after.

German Werner Lorant was appointed as the inaugural coach, however he would step down within the first season after a series of poor results.

2005 saw Incheon mount their first serious title challenge, making it all the way to the K-League Championship playoff against Ulsan Hyundai. A horror first leg in which they lost 1-5 would kill the decider, and despite winning the second leg 2-1 they would lose 6-3 on aggregate.

The club has struggled to reach those heights again, with a fifth placed finish in 2009 their best effort since. In August 2010, directly after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Incheon appointed Huh Jung-moo, who guided South Korea to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as their new manager.
