HISTORY
Gangwon is one of the newest clubs on the professional football scene in Korea, only being founded in late 2008. Their debut season in the K-League in 2009 started promisingly, with a 1-0 win over Jeju United in their opening game, followed by a further four victories in a row, causing a sensation in the first half of the K-League season.

Unfortunately they couldn’t maintain that run of form for the entire year and slipped down the table, eventually finishing in 13th place (of 15 teams). Kim Young-hoo was their leading goal scorer with 13, which was enough to see him crowned as the K-League’s Rookie of the Year.

Despite their status as a brand new club, the club has a strong fan base, with their supporters nicknamed Narcia.
