Founded as Bicholim Football Club in the 1960′s, Dempo were one of the top football clubs in India at the time and are remembered as one of the most talented squads ever.

Dempo Souza took over the club in 1967 and the club was named Dempo Souza Sports Club. Despite the change in owners, the club continued to be regarded as one of the best across India.

Over time Dempo bought out the ownership stake of Mr Michael D’Souza and the club became simply known as Dempo Sports Club. They created history when they won the first ever I-League title in 2007-08 and as a result they participated in the 2008 AFC Cup.

Regarded as an underdog, they shocked everyone with a surprise run to the Semi-Final.
