HISTORY
The club was founded in 1996 as Chengdu Wuniu and entered into Yi-League (China’s third tier). In just their second season they won promotion to Jia B League, finishing eighth in their first season is the second division.

In 2000 the club underwent a name change, re-naming themselves Chengdu Wuniu Guoteng, but only a year later the club was embroiled in a match-fixing controversy and as a result were forced to reform and re-apply for their position in the league. The club did so, and reformed under the name Chengdu Taihe.

In 2006 they were bought out by English team Sheffield United and renamed Chengdu Blades. 2008 saw the club promoted to CSL, but they were quickly relegated back in 2009 due to match fixing when they were played in the lower league, finishing 2nd in 2010 C-League Division 1 and winning promotion back to CSL.

In early 2011 Sheffield United sold their share of Chengdu Blades to Chongqing Gele Capital Company.
