Paartalu departs Brisbane

One of the worst kept secrets in the A-League was confirmed today when Brisbane Roar announce it had reached an agreement with Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda over the transfer of star midfielder Erik Paartalu.

Erik Paartalu will join Chinese side Tianjin Teda

Paartalu signed a two-year deal with the 2011 Chinese FA Cup champions and will depart for China next week where he will officially join Tianjin, assuming he passes a medical test.

“I can’t say that money didn’t come into the equation when making this decision because a footballer’s career is relatively short and I am still ambitious,” Paartalu told the Courier Mail today.

“Having said this I have a strong desire to continue my football development and believe the new challenge in the Chinese Super League will help take my game to a new level.

“Whilst the past few months have been challenging I’ve loved my time here at the Roar and leave with fond memories.”

Paartalu will be most fondly remembered for his last second goal in the 2011 A-League Grand Final that sent the game into penalties, which Brisbane would win 4-2.

“As a club we recognise we are losing one of the players who played an enormous part in our success over the past two seasons,” Brisbane Roar general manager Sean Dobson said.

“However, we will never stand in the way of a player who wants a fresh challenge in their career.

“At this point in time Erik believes this is a move which can benefit his football career and we wish him all the best on his new path.”
