Iran do it easy against the Maldives

The game started out being dominated by the Persians in the first half. Karim Ansarifard struck home an early fourth minute goal to give the Iranians an expected lead. The remainder of the first half saw the Iranian players create a veriety of chances, but failed to finish on many opportunities. Going into halftime, the Iranians had a 1-0 lead.

Iran did it easy against the Maldives

The second half started out the same way the first half did, only this time the Iranians were playing with a much greater sence of urgency. They were determined to score more goals, and got what they wanted. Karim ansarifard scored his second goal in the 62nd minuete following a series of Maldive defenders failing to clear the ball out of their box.

Five minuetes later, former Bayern Munich ace and Iranian captain Ali Karimi headed in his 37th international goal to give Iran a 3-0 lead. Later on in the half, in the 86th minute, Saeid Daghighi scored his first international goal in just his second appearance. The Shahrdari Tabriz forward tapped the ball into the back of the net from a Khosrow Heydari cross.

The game finished 4-0 in favor of Iran. The Maldives never created a legitimate opportunity that tested Iranian goalkeeper Mehdi Rahmati, as all of their shots went wide of the goal.

In a press conference following the game, Carlos Queroiz spoke to the press about his teams performance. He voiced his satisfaction in his team’s effort. He congratulated his team in keeping concentration and controlling the game from start to finish.

However, Queroiz was not reluctant to state that be beleives his team needs a little work.

Queroiz said, “We have to improve the quality of our crosses, last passes and also the movement of our strikers. I hope we manage to progress in these areas in future. My players need more time to gel togheter and I believe we can play better in future World Cup qualifiers”.

Iran will fly to the Maldives on Tuesday to prepare for the second Leg. The winner (on aggregate) will qualify for the next round of World Cup qualification.
